Believer Meats and HU Publish Study On Non-GMO Cultured Chicken
|
Israeli-based Believer Meats (formerly Future Meat Technologies), in partnership with The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, has published a study in Nature Foods revealing the former’s production methods for cost-efficient, non-GMO cultured chicken. Led by Professor Yaakov Nahmias, the founder, president and CTO of Believer Meats, the study outlines how researchers produced immortal cell lines of chicken fibroblasts using a process of “spontaneous immortalization,” as patented by the company last year.

Hebrew University has announced that Dr. Karma Ben-Johanan, a researcher at the university, has been awarded the prestigious Dan David Prize for the Study of History. This is a remarkable achievement for Dr. Ben-Johanan, who is one of only nine scholars from around the world to receive this honor.
The prize it is recognized as one of the most prestigious prizes in the world, and previous winners have included luminaries such as former US Vice President Al Gore, Nobel Prize-winning economist Amartya Sen, and literary giant Margaret Atwood.

HU Researchers Develop Cancer Nanotherapies Effective in Tumour Eradication |
An international team from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Instituto de Microelectronica de Barcelona developed metal iron-based biodegradable magnetoplasmonic nanocapsules (MAPSULES) to eradicate tumours via remote-controlled local delivery of chemotherapy at ultra-low drug concentrations. The findings of this study were published in ACS Nano Journal and featured on the cover of the latest issue, demonstrated positive therapeutic effects of MAPSULES in biological models carrying human breast tumours. The MAPSULES also boost drug therapeutic action and minimise damage to surrounding tissues.
