The Holocaust Studies Program of the Western Galilee College is inviting proposals for an international conference commemorating 80 years to Operation "Barbarossa" and the initial phase of the "Final Solution"
For over half a century historians have treated the 22 June 1941 as the most significant date in the annals of the Second World War. David Glantz aptly called it "When Titans Clashed", and indeed the clash of the Titans it was.
In retrospect we can see the impact and implications of this event on the fate of the Jews as mass murder began in the newly occupied soviet territories. It also signaled the beginning of the end of the Blitzkreig way of fighting.
The conference will address the Nazi Invasion of the Soviet Union and its impact on the course and the outcome of the war and the Final Solution. Proposals on the reaction of the Jewish population, involvement of the Wehrmacht in atrocities, Partisan warfare are welcome as are proposals dealing with the place of Barbarossa in collective memory and historiography.
The conference will take place online, on a ZOOM platform.
We invite proposals (up to 500 words) & short CVs, both on one page.
Organizing team: Dr. Yaron Pasher, Dr. Daniela Ozacky Stern, Dr. Boaz Cohen.
Please send proposals & CV (on one page) to Dr. Yaron Pasher, Holocaust Studies Program - Western Galilee College:
