Foundation of the new Center of Excellence in Haryana
The foundation laying ceremony of the 5th CoE of Indo- Israel for Semi-Arid horticulture in Gignow, Haryana was held on December 2, 2020. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Agriculture, Government of Haryana, Sh. J P Dalal while Ambassador of Israel to India H. E. Mr. Ron Malka, joined virtually. Spread over an area of 50 acres, with an investment of 8.15 Cr ( 60:40 ratio), this CoE will be the 5th in Haryana state, the others being in Sirsa, Karnal, Kurukshetra and Ram Nagar. This will also be the 1st Center of Excellence for Semi-Arid Horticulture in India with a focus on the issue of Post Harvest losses. The project is scheduled to be completed in 6 months. December 2.

Cyber-Space: Emerging Threats, Terrorism & the Responses
DCM Ms. Anitha Nandhini spoke at the inaugural session of the virtual conference on “Cyber-Space: Emerging Threats, Terrorism & the Responses” organized by the India Foundation in collaboration with International Institute for Counter- Terrorism (ICT) at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya. In the two days of the event, reputed experts, practitioners and scholars from India, Israel and the world deliberated upon five sub-themes concerning the intricacies of cyber security. December 14.

National Student Startup Meet 2020
DCM Ms. Anitha Nandhini participated as a distinguished panelist for the session “GovPreneurs “which had the participation of senior officers from various state governments implementing the startup policies at the National Student Startup Meet 2020, which aims to create a knowledge-sharing platform in which innovators/startups pan India will come and showcase their innovations in the presence of policymakers, experts and funding organizations. Also, awards were given to student start-ups, Innovators, Academic Institutions, and incubators during the event. 17th December.

India and Israel signed an MoU on Health
Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E . Gabi Ashkenazi and Ambassador Sanjeev Singla, signed the Agreement on Cooperation in the fields of Health and Medicine between India & Israel. The Agreement includes sharing of expertise for facilitating climate resilient infrastructure & expediting cooperation in exchange & training of medical doctors & other health professionals, assistance in development of human resources & setting up of health care facilities. The Agreement will also facilitate the exchange of information regarding regulation of pharmaceuticals, medical devices and cosmetics. 21 December

Avgol shifting production from Israel to India
Avgol says it will invest $17 million in moving the production line to India, where it will be located in a different place to its existing manufacturing plant in India. Avgol expects the new Indian plant to be operating by the first quarter of 2022.

After 60 years: Carmel Rugs is moving to India
After 60 years, the mythical Carmel Carpet Factory closes its doors. At the height of the economic crisis, some of the 100 workers in the factory will be laid off and some will retire. The carpet production, which has so far been carried out at the Shaked factory, will move to factories in India and Turkey, and only marketing and development activities will remain in Israel.

Ecoppia's robots to clean one million solar energy panels in India in a multi-million deal Israeli company Ecoppia, which has developed a platform for robotic solutions for solar panels, has struck a major deal with one of India's leading solar energy players, Azure Power. The agreement for the project of 450MW, which includes an estimated one million solar panels, was signed back in October and is scheduled to go live at the beginning of the first quarter of 2021.

Israel, India pursue joint water, irrigation ventures
The Water Resources Ministry called on Israeli tech companies to design irrigation solutions for India's agricultural sector. The project will benefit dozens of communities in northern India that suffer from an irregular water supply. The bid, which is part of the strategic cooperation between Israel and India, will also see an Israeli company oversee the project in the Bundelkhand region of the northern India state of Uttar Pradesh.

Israel’s Rafael announces $200 million weapons deal
Israeli defense contractor Rafael, which manufactures the Iron Dome missile defense system among other things, reported on Wednesday about a $200 million order from a foreign state for Spike anti-tank missiles and Spice-2000 guided bombs. India, which is currently the largest client of Israel’s defense industries, has purchased the two weapons systems before and is increasing its stockpiles.
