IDSA delegation visited Israel
Ambassador Pavan Kapoor hosted the visiting Institute of Defence and Strategic Analysis (IDSA) delegation led by Ambassador Sujan Chinoy, Director General, IDSA and representatives from Jerusalem Institute of Strategic Studies (JISS). IDSA and JISS together organized a workshop on 'India-Israel Strategic Dialogue' in Jerusalem on 2 September 2019.

Haifa Day Commemorating Haifa Day, the Embassy and the Municipality of Haifa paid tribute to the valiant Indian soldiers who laid down their lives in the Battle of Haifa, considered "the last great cavalry campaign in history". DCM Tshering W. Sherpa addressed the solemn event and spoke on the finest traditions of our men in uniform. The Indian Army commemorates September 23 every year as Haifa Day to pay its respects to the three Indian Cavalry Regiments - Mysore, Hyderabad and Jodhpur Lancers, that helped liberate Haifa following a dashing cavalry action by the 15th Imperial Service Cavalry Brigade of the then British Indian Army at the Battle of Haifa in 1918. 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi celebrations
The Embassy of India celebrated 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with a special function on the importance of Gandhian values in today's world. Honoring the Indian traditions, the event was inaugurated with a lamp lighting ceremony by Cd'A Tshering W. Sherpa, renowned Israeli author Dr. Shimon Lev, members of the Indian diaspora and Israeli guests. Cd'A Tshering W. Sherpa delivered the opening remarks where he emphasized on the role and need of imbibing the spirit of Gandhian ideals in public service delivery and the centrality of Bapu's philosophy in modern Indian thought. Dr. Shimon Lev, author of several books on Gandhiji in both English and Hebrew languages spoke on how Bapu's life and message continues to inspire the world. The speeches were followed by a prizes distribution ceremony for the winners of Quiz competition on Gandhiji, organized by the Embassy, as part of 'Bapu At 150' celebrations. An audio-visual presentation highlighting the various events organized by the Embassy as part of two-year long 'Bapu at 150' celebrations was also played.

Diwali Celebrations

Ambassador Sanjeev Singla participated in the Diwali celebrations at the Bursa in Tel Aviv, organized by the Israeli Diamond Exchange and the Indian Diamond Community in Israel. He appreciated the role of the Indian business community in Israel in strengthening the economic & commercial ties and stressed on the importance of people-to-people linkages between the two countries. India emerges as the 3rd largest ecosystem for successful startups
With 21 unicorns, India has emerged as the third largest ecosystem for more successful start ups right behind China and US but ahead of Britain and Israel, according to Hurun Global Unicorn List 2019. Leading the pack from the country are payments solutions platform One97 Communications (USD 10 billion), cab aggregator Ola Cabs (USD 6 billion), online educator Byjus (USD 6 billion), and travel-stay finder OYO Rooms (USD 5 billion). India jumps to 63rd position in World Bank's Ease of Doing Business 2020 report
The World Bank released its latest Doing Business Report (DBR, 2020) on 24th October 2019. India recorded a jump of 14 positions against its rank of 77 in 2019 to be placed now at 63rd rank among 190 countries assessed by the World Bank. India's leap of 14 ranks in the Ease of Doing Business ranking is significant considering that there has been continuous improvement since 2015 and for the third consecutive year India is amongst the top 10 improvers. As a result of continued efforts by the Government, India has improved its rank by 79 positions in last five years [2014-19]. The Doing Business assessment provides objective measures of business regulations and their enforcement across 190 economies on ten parameters affecting a business through its life cycle. The DBR ranks countries on the basis of Distance to Frontier (DTF), a score that shows the gap of an economy to the global best practice. This year, India’s DTF score improved to 71.0 from 67.23 in the previous year. India has improved its rank in 7 out of 10 indicators and has moved closer to international best practices (Distance to Frontier score).Significant improvements have been registered in ‘Resolving Insolvency’, 'Dealing with Construction Permits', ‘Registering Property’, ‘Trading across Boards’ and ‘Paying Taxes’ indicators. The important features of India's performance this year are: The World Bank has recognized India as one of the top 10 improvers for the third consecutive year. Recovery rate under resolving insolvency has improved significantly from 26.5% to 71.6%. The time taken for resolving insolvency has also come down significantly from 4.3 years to 1.6 years. India continues to maintain its first position among South Asian countries. It was 6th in 2014. October 24.
