September 2022 - Rosh Hashana 5783
"Connecting 2022" - National Self-Advocacy Conference
Conference hosts: Rahib Diab, coordinator of self-advocates from the Arab sector, and Yafit Abergail, outstanding self-advocate from Shoham.

AKIM's 3rd self-advocates conference, "Connecting 2022", took place last week at the Ono Academic College and brought all 400 participants to new heights of enthusiasm and optimism. The gathering featured 300 self-advocates with IDD from 38 groups from across the country who united to hear each other and make their voices heard in the spirit of "nothing about us, without us".

The program included recognition of deserving stand-out self-advocates, artistic performances of music, dance and blessings from AKIM's leadership - CEO Sigal Peretz Yahalomi, Chairman Rabbi Dr. Benny Lau, and Advocacy Department Director Gery David. The conference was a huge success and the program was  empowering and inspiring to all those in attendance. It was testimony as to how far self-advocacy has come.   See photos from the conference
