During the development phases of a submarine antenna system, the R&D team must carefully check the electrical, mechanical and environmental requirements and always consider the tradeoffs to achieve the "best overall system".

 

In a submarine antenna system , the interaction between antenna and radome should be taken into consideration, since the radome significantly affects the antenna performance.  
A radome operating at extreme underwater pressures shall be carefully designed to suit the type of antennas integrated in the system. For Spiral antennas a certain type of Radome will be chosen and for Horn antennas another type of Radome will be chosen.
