Business Seminar on GST A business seminar titled "Implication of GST reform on Israeli companies and India as an Investment Destination" was held at Sheraton Hotel,Tel Aviv on 24th of October. The Event was organized by the Embassy of India in collaboration with Ernst & Young India and was inaugurated by Ambassador of India H.E Pavan Kapoor, Mr. V.S Krishnan, Head, Tax & Economic Policy (Indirect Tax & GST), EY India, Mr. Pawan Khatter, Director, Tax & Regulatory Services, EY India and Mr. Ori Tieger, Partner, Tax services, EY Israel.

Global Markets International Conference 2017
Embassy of India participated in Global Markets International Conference, on November 14 at Hilton Hotel, Tel Aviv. The event was organized by Tandem Capital, the premiere Israeli global investment management company and was comprised of senior investors and economists from Israel and abroad. Mr. Praveen Jagwani, Chief Executive Officer at UTI International Private Ltd. and Mr. Vipul Mehta, PM of Nomura AM, were among the speakers of the event. The Embassy’s Commercial Wing interacted with Israeli companies and investors in order to promote business collaborations between companies from India and Israel.

India’s participation in Tel Aviv's DLD Innovation Festival Ambassador Pavan Kapoor and DCM Dr. Anju Kumar visited Tel Aviv's DLD Innovation Festival on 7.9.17 and met with Indian and Israeli startups showcasing their technologies. DLD Innovation Festival was held between September 4-7 at Hatachana Compound, Tel Aviv-Jaffa with intention of bringing companies and investors from all over the world to meet the latest startups and breakthrough technologies.

70th Anniversary of India's Independence
A diplomatic reception was held at the Embassy residence on August 17 to mark the 70th Anniversary of India's Independence. Mr. Eli Cohen, Minister of Economy and Industry, represented the Govt. of Israel on the occasion.

The India Israel Innovation Forum
The India Israel Innovation Forum, co-organized by Tel Aviv University and IATI, was held with the participation of Dr. Ami Appelbaum, Chief Scientist & Israel Innovation Authority Chairman. Leading top executives of Indian corporations attended the Forum as to discuss new ways of strengthening the connections between Indian and Israeli tech enterprises. IATI CEO Karin Mayer Rubinstein spoke in the Forum's "India-Israel Innovation Corridor" Panel, along with Executive Director of Tata Industries KRS Jamwal.

India's rank rises to 100 in World Bank's doing Business Report
The World Bank released the Doing Business (DB) Report, 2018. India ranks 100 among 190 countries assessed by Doing Business Team. India has leaped 30 ranks over its rank of 130 in the Doing Business Report. This edition of the report acknowledges India as a top improver, with an improvement of 30 ranks compared to last year’s report, the highest jump in rank of any country in the DB Report, 2018. India is the only country in South Asia and BRICS economies to feature among most improved economies of the DB Report this year.

Moody’s upgrades India’s rating, changes outlook to stable from positive
Moody’s Investors Services upgraded the ratings of Sovereign Credit to Baa2 from Baa3 for the first time since 2004. This increase in ratings can be accredited to the structural and institutional reforms by the Modi Government including GST, Demonetisation, Aadhaar, DBT etc. These reforms will translate into an improved business climate, formalize the economy, and increase lending among other benefits such as reduction in corruption and debt. Moody’s outlook for sovereign rating also changed from ‘positive’ to ‘stable’.

L&T opens up Jerusalem R&D center
L&T Technology Services announced that it would be opening a new research and development center in Jerusalem, a sign that multinational firms are continuing to mine Israel for disruptive technologies. The Mumbai-based tech company, an engineering subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, will focus on offering hardware and software-based cybersecurity tools, along with video interface for media and design. The company plans to hire 200 employees in next three years.

Over 1,000 fresh FPIs registered in April-September
Over 1,000 fresh foreign investors were registered with Sebi in April-September 2017-18, primarily due to their continued interest in the Indian capital markets, latest data from the regulator showed. This comes on top of close to 3,500 new foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) registering with Sebi in the past financial year. According to Sebi data, the number of FPIs with the regulator's approval increased to 8,826 at the end of September 2017, from 7,807 at March-end, resulting in an addition of 1,019. "The reason for increasing FPI registrations is continued interest in the Indian equity, bonds and real estate," said Arvind Chari, head, fixed income and alternatives, Quantum Advisors.
